Trends, like sales come and go. This years craze over the Target Lilly Pulitzer sale got more attention, than if Caitlyn Jenner herself was the fit model (she really did wear an awful lot of pink this year!) I don’t normally subscribe to all the promo code propaganda surrounding these flash sales, but it was genius marketing – Lilly lovers around the globe were thrown into a panic, and began setting their alarms, getting their top picks in order in their own checkout bag, aligned along side their arsenal of charged computers and cell phones (for backup) and their credit cards and then en masse bombarded the internet on Target’s site at precisely 8am. Target’s site crashed as did the Lilly site, and many of the pop-up Lilly retailers for a few moments. All the prep set (who knew there were so many lemonade lovers?) responded to the luxurious and less than full priced offer to grab a Lilly shift or two at remarkably low prices.
And so due to an unfor…..seen mishap, (yes, my eyesight failed me) my alarm was accidentally set on PM, and so it did not ring at all, even though coffee was brewing, 8am came and went and, so, that shift sailed without me!
I began a rigorous search that evening and magically and rather quickly found the gown and a pretty print that I had been looking for – with and without Target’s help it turned out great. I successfully purchased a really pretty gown from last seasons collection, from a cute shop in Vero Beach, and as luck would have it it was on sale. And because it was from last season’s collection, no one from this season is wearing it, at least not on the beach I was on or the wedding that I was at. This Lilly left behind, the blue and green and white trimmed Biltmore maxi shift, was front and center and was the perfect choice for this summer wedding guest – and with this elegant, yet informal print, and the ankle length, (altered, naturally) it went from daytime dressy to formal afternoon and then eased into evening. This gown is a perfect wardrobe staple (there are a few more destination weddings on the horizon with a whole new social set, probably wearing this years sale shifts, so I am in luck again.)
Thankfully and quite by accident this terrific, tough to find, turquoise tasseled tunic is “right on Target.”
