Bleu et Blanc

breezy point bike dayWho would argue that stripes are definitely one of the hardest working patterns in the closet. A horizontal line is timeless and tres classique, and a glorious pick me up on a static one couleur, dreary day. The navy and white combo, favorited in many of The Greene Door’s posts, is always the perfect pop, for an off the page, fresh, femme look. Regardless of the weather, a striped long sleeved tee or a button down blouse, will always breathe life into any old outfit. The preppy French blue and white combo, in particular, gets a whole lot of wardrobe leverage, as those hues can be paired with anything. There are haute fashion houses that cut the heck out of this reliable trend, and then there are the big box shops that also keep the lines in order, but the prices affordable. The stripe is seamless, it’s French!, its nautical and can get anyone out of an outfit rut.

A perfectly executed standard, that is a testament to the tenor, naturally is the sailor tee. Its signature aesthetic is very cool, very laid-back. The striped avant garde appeal creates movement, another dimension, even. And no matter what the season, there will be always be stripes running left and right on something fashionable. A nearly 100-year history as varied as quirky stripes can get (and they can, they suited Coco Chanel very well, and quite often) will always fall in line as a perfect accoutrement to style a season. For when versatility is the word of the day, put a fresh stripe on and Voila!
