The Lilly Pulitzer “AFTER PARTY SALE” has come and gone and I have not purchased a thing. It’s easy to get caught up in the frenzy when any store is having a blowout sale, but it’s an interesting phenomenon that those discounted items are usually left behind for a reason. Nevertheless, I looked at some pretty little things, like many fans of the brand, but anything that would have made its way towards my address, was still at full price.
Case in point is the cashmere sweater that I picked up several months ago on Madison Avenue. There are very many Lilly pinks styling the shops but this Flamingo Pink is totally different, it is hotter than the hottest pink, and so we photographed it live and in living color. A. because it is a luxurious, beautiful open cashmere cardigan, too pretty to miss and B. because somehow I inherently knew that this color would sell out, and it did. (In fact, the very link to the item online is not even the finest representation of the color.) It has since been restocked due to popular demand, though not marked down, but again, it’s uniqueness is a great reason to keep the price ‘high during the high,’ that happens every single time a sale of this kind comes along. When, at the very start of the after party sale, it becomes impossible to start a tab (that process needs to be handled better, hurry up and wait, but not too long, or its gone) and then not get the chance to have a grab, at even an old pricey bag, the steadiest of shoppers could get weak in the knees. That is when the real spending begins. It is a clever marketing maneuver to rid the shop of the cache of goods, for some pretty little extra cash. That is the game changer, when the sales fail and full price seems nice.
This cute casual and dressy cardigan is dreamy. The cozy appeal of a layer so pretty is the tendency to show it off indoors, which is where it usually is worn now that winter unwrapped itself from Fall. A wrap this pretty defies the rule about not repeating wardrobe performances – it hangs on the back of my chair at work if it is not hanging on me. Like a cozy blanket, this non sale little number was worn so much, it was well worth the price – this hottie will assuredly help the cool look on those breezy summer nights, when the pinks are not hot enough.
As this little ‘tale about a sale’ has come to an end, (as quickly as the Lilly promotion did) this pricey pink sweater, well, this one is still for up for grabs – just at a higher tab. Oh, Well….
