Gilt City is one of the most well known flash sale websites. They discovered a unique shopping niche online by peddling curated styles at insider prices. Only its members can enter their site to be able to see their stuff. Joining is, naturally pretty easy to do. Sign on and sign up and then you are onboard to cruise their goods and services on your own time. Or not. Real time is really real for this e-commerce giant – sales generally go up for a two to three day stint, so it is imperative to be timely as the goods are gone by day two of the stinkin’ stint. However, since they send a gazillion email reminders, which is necessary to give to them, in order to become a Gilt member. It’s not likely that you’ll forget about what is going on unless you choose to filter those golden virtual doors into a dark hole, in an unnamed folder somewhere to the left of your inbox. Do that, though – it’s handy to know that those numerous nuisance notes are stored there. Jimmy Choo is no snail, and he is even quicker when he is 50 off. And he has friends…..
This weekend, for autumnal activity, Gilt City will be flashing a good deal of their goods at a sneaky sample sale at a certain NYC pop up location. Beginning on Friday October 2 through Sunday October 4, the flash-sale begins at The Altman Building – an awesome Chelsea hang out for new fashionistas in the know. Here, it is actually possible to receive up to 80% off designer clothing, and as this sale is unisex, its perfect for a day or a date out with a friend or two. They promise something for everyone and they are usually spot on. To further entice the discerning discount daydreamers – on Saturday, they will sell discounted entrance tickets for only $5 for the afternoon session which allows you, a two hour shopping window and includes some fun cocktails. The tempting treat is a perfect way to make you feel just good enough to buy enough. Spoiler alert – this sale is intense, its crowded and it takes time – the goods go, fast. I recommend joining in on the Friday hustle over the sad Sunday left-overs – that aforementioned Choo Choo train pulls into the station right on time – latecomers beware.
Last Fall, on a FRIDAY, hint/wink (at a similar pop up in a different location) there was a beautiful pink Irish tweed blazer with ecru leather elbow patches and a pair of velvet leopard print Stubbs & Wooten loafers that I just had to purchase, guilt free.
