Running in Headspace

The Greene Door Running
Running and meditation go great together, but as in all forms of meditation, it takes a lot of practice to learn to master this skill. It takes habit and repetition to be able to detach from thinking, to hit the pause button on the continuous brain chatter channel – to just learn to stay quiet and just listen, creating a space that allows your mind to relax, slow down and take a few minutes to smell the roses. Meditation can access the wisdom of the body and the benefits experienced while running and meditating are certainly worth it. And like everything, anyone is ever looking for, there is an App that will help settle down the most anxious runner. It is called Headspace and it is an effective treatment for stress, worry, lack of focus, and it leads to peace of mind and well being, greater focus and creativity and better runs. Much better runs. In less than ten sessions, breathing benefits and your body and mind start to flow really nicely, your gait will get stronger and the power in those cramped up, uneasy legs will get so much stronger. I have had this app for quite some time now, and I have successfully used the principles to finish a lot of 26.2 races.

Quickie runs are that much quicker when listening to a great play list, but the more monotonous, harder runs (those with an eye on that marathon prize) are better accomplished when focusing on learning to let go and develop an awareness of everything surrounding you, your body as it runs, how your feet feel as they hit the pavement, all the various smells and sounds – everything that is present. Headspace is a peaceful meditation, and easy to get in to. Suddenly and without fail, (I’ve done the research for you) running becomes more of a joy, it gets fun, energetic, electric – a welcome respite from the crazy, or the humdrum of any particular day. And when a run (especially a 20+ mile long training run) becomes difficult and you feel tired, just continue on the Headspace Meditation Road and the journey will be that much sweeter. The feeling of peace, contentment and achievement will absolutely overtake all other emotions for the remainder of the day (at least this runners day) and maybe even until your next run. Music is great, but Headspace is greater. And there are a lot of perks, benefits, to map your journey, track your progress, and get inspiration as you run. Running in your own Headspace will enhance the joys of running and living life simultaneously!
