Leggings

The jury is still out on whether or not leggings are flattering. They are certainly a more attainable and affordable option for the shorter set, who are hard pressed to ever find a proper fitting slack, trouser, pant or jean. In the style world, designers still use an uber legged fit model, even when fitting for petites, making it quite difficult to find almost any pant that is proportionate, and I daresay style forward. (Heaven knows that a petite department is petite on style and fashion forward sense.) I shudder at a recent option of capris referred to as ‘mom’ pants! Yikes. (It’s just a bad visual, right?) The only cropped pants that I constantly style and probably far too often is a skinny white jean, and I haven’t a worry in the world if they are seasonally inappropriate – navigating the tricky picky pant playing field is hardly a win/win. Which is why leggings have become such a staple item, and not just on The Greene Door. There are a host of sites with a cute pixie sporting a white jean on the screen – as well as on the bottom half of half the Christmas shoppers I have recently seen. Which brings more meaning to perhaps a new term for the tot shop set – begging for a new legging.

Tis the season to wear a signature holiday red shade, although it seems somewhat cliche to attempt to go Christmas shopping looking like you had it all planned in advance. But I did. And I chose these cute leggings that are easy to style (white shirt) laid-back and sophisticated and are made with microfiber, providing perfect compression and just enough stretch to prevent the “sore knee/skinny jean” pain in the leg halfway through the day – this tight leg stays tight and becomes like a second skin.

Leggings are cozy, warm and comfortable, which is why the brand Hue became so huge. The sock/tight retailer realized early on that pants were being swapped out for leggings by more than just dancers, runners or yogis. There are now leggings, jeggings, treggings, in fact – there is almost a devoted department in any hosiery section of any department store catered to the tight trend. And why not? They are fun and functional, rustic yet refined and easy to coordinate with just about anything. And when sporting my favorite black legging, it is a no nonsense transition from day to night without very much effort at all.
