Ryleigh Greene (the stunning blonde in the photo above) is an English bred 5 year old labrador retriever.
Labrador Retrievers are dogs of a breed born for rescue and recovery. (This was the summer of the seal.) The fact that so many different types of people, both weak and strong, can use them is a testament to their breed. They are consistently successful as guide dogs for their intelligence, trainability, lack of aggression, willingness to please, low body sensitivity, good health, and their confidence. Labrador Retrievers are also smart, wonderful, loving, great with children and very, very memorable (before Ryleigh there were two chocolate Greene’s, Murphy and then another Murphy.)
President Clinton had a presidential pup named Buddy, (now he has Seamus) Prince William had an earl of a lab, Widgeon, Superman had his superhero sidekick Krypto, Spike portrayed Old Yellar and Isis was, (until recently) queen of the castle on Downtown Abbey. Ryleigh doesn’t have super powers, (just super good looks) doesn’t play catch all that well and isn’t royalty of any sort, but he is beautiful, smart and loving and he was recently a runner up in an Orvis magazine cover competition ( “woof, there’s always next year.”) This pretty yellow lab (and birthday present) certainly lives “The Life of Ryleigh.” And he looks pretty darn good living it. Bravo to the foremost breeder on the east coast, Don Higgins for saving me the pick of the litter!
