THE TULIP “ELIZABETH” BLOUSE by E. McKay

Elizabeth McKayThis is the blouse that started it all. And this is the reason that I fell hard for the wonderful Elizabeth McKay distinctive style of pretty, ‘playful yet sophisticated’ clothing. In particular, The McKay vintage line of ruffled blouses is clearly a favorite. These silks are unique, dainty, and each pattern harvests a lot of complimentary chatter. At the core of great fashion is clever yet cautionary consistency – the most popular item, will inevitably always be the designers most popular item. The colors may change, the styles may swagger, but the style, prices and sizes routinely remain constant. For this finicky shopper, the “Elizabeth” blouse is the McKay stay. It goes for each and every designer that has become known for their stand out wear. DVF and her wraps, Lilly and her prints, Calvin and his jeans, Ralph and his ponies and Kate and her bows – and to be included in this line with a top as significant is an achievement of the highest caliber.

And so it goes for this particular brand of ruffled regalia and this particularly cute, capped sleeve blouse decorated with rows and rows of tulips. The elephants and running horses prints are whimsical wear, (and I sport them as well) but I am caught tiptoeing through the tulips with this topper, quite often. It is lively to play down a dress up item like this one (ie. sparkly heels with jeans, a fur coat with running tights, or a silk green tulip blouse with a ruffled neckline and gold cufflink closures, paired with ordinary hot pink college cords.) Elizabeth McKay created her brand of exclusive patterns as a fabric of wholesome American prep, simple and classic with sophisticated flair and pricing as fair. The essence of the clothing is chic and quite eye catching. Each time that I pop into the attractive boutique off Lexington Avenue, I pop out with another charming popover. *Spoiler alert – as with most fabulous items of clothing, this piece sold out rather quickly, (re: that chatter I mentioned, perhaps) however there are always more patterns of the same style to choose from, so if the if your prep is still in your step – do stop over to find another pop over “Elizabeth” shirt at emckay.com
